Bilal's Honor

Reference: Musnad Ahmad

Bilal was an Abyssinian slave who was brutally tortured for accepting Islam. Abu Bakr bought and freed him. Despite his former status as a slave, the Prophet ﷺ chose Bilal to be the first mu'adhin of Islam. His voice would call the believers to prayer five times daily. When Umar entered Jerusalem as its conqueror, he asked Bilal to give the adhan. The former slave stood atop the sacred city, honored by Al-Mu'izz above kings and nobles.

Lesson

Al-Mu'izz does not honor based on lineage or wealth, but on faith and character. The lowest in society can become the most honored.
