Meaning & Explanation
Al-Waliyy is the One who is the protective friend and guardian of the believers. He is close to them, supports them, and guides them. He takes charge of their affairs and never abandons those who turn to Him. He is the friend who truly protects.

اللَّهُ وَلِيُّ الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا يُخْرِجُهُم مِّنَ الظُّلُمَاتِ إِلَى النُّورِ
“Allah is the ally of those who believe. He brings them out from darkness into light”

فَاللَّهُ هُوَ الْوَلِيُّ وَهُوَ يُحْيِي الْمَوْتَىٰ
“Allah - He is the Protector, and He gives life to the dead”

Reference: Surah At-Tawbah 9:40
When the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr hid in the cave of Thawr during the Hijrah, the Quraysh searched everywhere for them. They came so close that Abu Bakr said: "If any of them looks down at his feet, he will see us." The Prophet ﷺ calmly replied: "O Abu Bakr, what do you think of two when Allah is their third?" Al-Waliyy sent a spider to weave a web at the cave's entrance and a bird to nest there. The trackers assumed no one could have entered without disturbing them. Al-Waliyy protected His friends in their most vulnerable moment.
Al-Waliyy's friendship means protection through means we cannot imagine. When He is your Waliy, the impossible becomes your protection.
