Miracle

She-camel from a rock

The Story

Salih (peace be upon him) was sent to the people of Thamud, who lived in the rocky mountains of Al-Hijr in northern Arabia. They were skilled builders who carved magnificent homes into the mountains.

Like 'Ad, Thamud had become arrogant and worshipped idols. Salih called them to worship Allah alone. They demanded a miracle as proof of his prophethood.

Allah sent a miraculous she-camel that emerged from a rock. Salih told his people not to harm the camel and to share their water with it. For a while, they complied, but eventually, they plotted against the camel.

Nine men from Thamud hamstrung and killed the she-camel. Salih warned them that they had only three days before Allah's punishment would come. They mocked him, but on the third day, a mighty blast destroyed them all.

The ruins of Thamud at Madain Salih still exist today as a reminder.
