The Story

Yusuf (peace be upon him) is described in the Quran as having the most beautiful of stories. As a child, he dreamed that eleven stars, the sun, and moon prostrated to him.

His brothers, jealous of their father's love for him, threw him into a well. He was found by a caravan and sold as a slave in Egypt. There, he was raised in the house of the Aziz (minister), where the minister's wife tried to seduce him.

Yusuf chose prison over sin, saying "Prison is more beloved to me than what they invite me to." In prison, he interpreted dreams, eventually being called to interpret Pharaoh's dream about seven fat and seven lean cows.

His interpretation saved Egypt from famine. He was appointed minister and managed Egypt's resources. Years later, his brothers came seeking grain, not recognizing him. Eventually, Yusuf revealed himself and forgave them.

His father Ya'qub and the entire family moved to Egypt, fulfilling his childhood dream. The story is told in its entirety in Surah Yusuf.
