Kibr is the rejection of truth and looking down upon people. It is the disease that caused Iblis to be expelled from Paradise. The arrogant person sees themselves as superior to others and refuses to accept guidance when it contradicts their ego.

Hasad is wishing for the removal of a blessing from someone else, whether or not you want it for yourself. It differs from ghibtah (permissible longing), where one wishes to have a similar blessing without wanting the other person to lose theirs. Envy is a fire that consumes good deeds.

Riya is performing acts of worship or good deeds to be seen and praised by people rather than seeking Allah's pleasure alone. It is called the "hidden shirk" because it associates partners with Allah in intention. The Prophet described it as more hidden than a black ant on a black stone on a dark night.

Hubb ad-Dunya is excessive attachment to worldly life - its pleasures, possessions, and status - at the expense of preparation for the Hereafter. It is the root of all sins, as the Prophet described it as the head of every error. This does not mean abandoning the world, but rather having the world in one's hand, not in one's heart.

Ghadab is uncontrolled anger that leads a person to say or do things they later regret. While some anger for Allah's sake is praiseworthy, excessive anger for personal matters is a disease that stems from pride and love of self. The Prophet described the strong person as one who controls themselves in anger.

Ghafla is a state of spiritual neglect and forgetfulness of Allah, the Hereafter, and one's purpose in life. The heedless person goes through the motions of life without reflection, allowing days and years to pass without spiritual growth. It is perhaps the most widespread disease in the modern age.
